HOW TO LOWER YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE NATURALLY

Part 25 : Biofeedback

Using biofeedback you can learn to control bodily functions which are not usually under voluntary control. For example you can learn to slow down or speed up your heart rate at will. Biofeedback can also be used to lower blood pressure.

A study in the US has shown that 8 out of 10 people can control their blood pressure using biofeedback techniques. The technique used in the study involved patients raising their skin temperature by imagining their feet getting warmer and warmer. The theory behind this is that as the skin gets warmer the tiny blood vessels at the surface of the skin dilate and this creates a reduction in blood pressure. Eventually you can control this at will.

Biofeedback has been used in medicine for over 30 years and it is usually carried out by a doctor or therapist using an electrical device to monitor the particular bodily function under control. The patient gets constant feedback from the device in the form of an audible or visual signal so that he or she can determine the results of different attempts at control using thoughts, visualisation or muscle relaxation and so on. The feedback “teaches” the patient how to gain control.

One manufacturer has had a personal therapeutic device approved by the FDA in the US as it has been clinically proven to lower blood pressure. The device called RESPeRATE (TM)  helps you relax constricted blood vessels to reduce your high blood pressure using a breathing technique. They claim that just 15 minutes using RESPeRATE's (TM) paced breathing a few times a week, can produce a significant, lasting reduction in your blood pressure within 4-6 weeks.

If you plan on using RESPeRATE (TM) or any other biofeedback advice be sure and get your doctor's approval. Doctors generally feel that biofeedback devices are better used under supervision and of course,  as your blood pressure lowers you might need adjustment to any medical treatment you are using.
