HOW TO LOWER YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE NATURALLY
Part 27 : Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is good for helping to lower blood pressure on two counts. Firstly, there are the benefits you experience from an aromatherapy session in terms of relaxation and then there are the oils themselves.
An aromatherapy session almost certainly means that you get to relax and lie down in a warm room for 30 minutes or more with soft towels and soothing music while you enjoy a gentle massage with the aromatic oils. That is especially beneficial if you tend to rush around at the speed of light, adrenaline flowing and heart rate pumping!
The aromatherapy oils each have different qualities, some of which have been demonstrated to have a blood pressure raising effect and others which have a blood pressure lowering effect.
The ones you should avoid are
And the ones used to help lower blood pressure are
- clary sage
- geranium
- lavender
- lemon
- marjoram
- melissa
- nutmeg
- rosemary
- ylang ylang
- chamomile
- jasmine
- pettigrain
- rose
- vetivert
You can of course create your own oils by adding 10 drops of essential oil to 100ml of neutral carrier oil (such as almond or sunflower oil) but you do miss out on the whole relaxing experience and it's advisable to work with a qualified therapist first of all so that your whole health is taken into account and in particular so that you do not use something which could be contra-indicated for you. This is important for other health conditions as well as high blood pressure.
